Engineered American Black Walnut Board

Although not cheap, American Black Walnut has become popular in recent years, offering a darker option in wood flooring with a lot of variation in colour, texture, and grain pattern. It is also a very hard material, making it suitable for a range of different applications from domestic to commercial. It is certainly a wood which can provide a "wow" factor. Although it is possible to obtain a prime grade which is free of knots and has an even, dark colour, in reality it is very difficult to source because of its scarcity, and as a result,very expensive. And so most American Black Walnut is "natural" or "character" grade which can include some lighter sap wood as well as some knots and interesting grain pattern, and it is this which gives the floor its distinctive characteristics. No two boards are the same.
As well as our solid traditional floorboards, we supply a wide range of options in engineered American Black Walnut flooring which many prefer particularly for installation over underfloor heating where it is felt the "engineered" properties of the flooring, particularly where the base is good quality plywood, make it particularly stable. Another advantage of engineered, or multi-layer flooring is that it is in general easier to fit onto a concrete sub-floor, either with a special rubber-based glue where the engineered board is fixed direct to the surface of the concrete, or by fitting it as a floating floor. The former is more expensive, but it does give the engineered floor a more solid feel compared with a floating floor where there is inevitably some give.
Our American Black Walnut Engineered options include

- 21 mm thick comprising a 6 mm thick character grade walnut veneer on an exterior grade ply backing, widths 140, 160 and 189 mm., mixed lengths 60% of which are 1.8 metres and above. Available either unfinished (filled and sanded) or pre-finished with either oil or hard wax/oil. Please note that we consider this option to be the best buy in terms of quality and price

- 21 mm thick comprising a 5 mm thick natural grade walnut veneer on a ply backing. Widths 150 and 189 mm, lengths 1830 mm, finished with a matt lacquer

- 18 mm thick with a 4 mm thick walnut veneer on a plywood base, 127 mm wide, random lengths average 730 mm, finished with 7 coats of UV lacquer (see photo)

- 14 mm thick comprising a 3 mm thick walnut veneer on a plywood base, width 127 mm, random lengths from 400 mm up to 1.2 metres, finished with 7 coats of UV lacquer
