Oak Flooring from Hackworth Sawmill
Character Oak, White Oiled

Character Grade Oak Flooring, brushed and White Oiled.
A recent development in hardwood flooring, particuarly oak, has been the introduction of a wide range of stains to meet the requirments
of people who want a unique floor rather then the traditional, natural colour of the wood. For those who wish to lighten the colour more
than can be achieved with a water-based sealer, there are basically two options, either to treat the wooden floor with a lime paste which
takes the colour out of the timber, or to stain it with a white dye. Both of these options will require a subsequent floor sealer, ususally oil.
A lime wash can be applied at the sawmill, but this has only a slight lightening effect. More can be achieved by applying a lime paste to
the floor once it has been fitted and this gives greater control over the final colour of the wood. White oil on the other hand, applied at the mill,
gives an even colour and texture. Both applications can be enhanced by wire-brushing the wooden flooring to accentuate the grain.
Liming in situ is a relatively easy, although time-consuming process. Lime paste, available from most DIY stores, is applied with a cloth,
working along the grain, and the surplus wiped off. The advantage of doing it yourself is that you have control over how light you want
the wood flooring to finish up. The more coats you apply, the lighter the effect. Once the colour required has been achieved,
the wooden floor can be finished with an appropriate floor sealer
